The National Student Union of Belize was founded on the 8th of February, 2018.

 

The Union's main purpose is to represent tertiary level students' opinions on key issues affecting students, youths and the Nation of Belize by extension.

Some Aims:
  • To promote learning opportunities for capacity building including leadership for all students of Belize.

  • To establish and sustain a safe environment in which students and youths can grow by interacting, encouraging civility and seeking and implementing solutions to social issues.

  • To tackle social issues by improving the quality of student life through social action, educational programs and activities, social and cultural events and community service projects.

What is the NSUB?
  • The NSUB is a students' union that caters for students at the tertiary level in universities and junior colleges across Belize and for Belizean students abroad. It is the only existing student's union and the first-ever in Belizean history.

  • Member of The Commonwealth Students Association and The Caribbean Students' Union.

  • Honorary Member of the National Trade Union Congress of Belize (NTUCB).

Who is eligible for membership?

Individual applicants needs to be either of the following:

  • Belizean Students studying at any post-secondary institution in Belize.

  • Belizean Students studying internationally 

  • CARICOM Students studying in Belize

​

Institutional Applicants needs to be either of the following:

  • A student government/guild of a post-secondary institution in Belize

  • A regional or international Belizean student association

 

How is it governed?
  • The NSUB is governed by a President an Executive Council and General Assembly and is supported by a Board of Advisors.

​

  • The Executive Council consists of the President, Vice Presidents, The Secretary, The Financial Advisor and Unit Directors.

  • The General Assembly consists of the Presidents or the Chair of Member Student Governments, Guild and Student Associations.

  • The NSUB has a strong working relationship with the Ministry of Education, Culture, Science and Technology along with many other organisations in Belize such as the Belize Teacher's Union.

  • The NSUB resolves issues students may have or it provides advice where necessary.

  • The NSUB also provides a platform for students to voice themselves and to make their causes known; be it to each other or to the public.

  • It provides a place where leadership, partnership, civility and cooperation is prioritised.

  • It also strengthens students' well-being through volunteerism, patriotism, and responsibility.

What do I do if I have an issue/problem?

What are my responsibilities as a member?

​​

  • To work diligently in all actions required to achieve the goals and objectives of the NSUB. 

  • To liaise with all officers of the Union in relation to any decision-making done under “NSUB”.

  • Any matter concerning NSUB is accountable to the composition and membership of the elected members in the order to which they belong.

  • The NSUB charges a membership fee of $2 per month; however the current administration has waivered that fee until further notice.

To represent, support and empower tertiary level students of Belize to contribute to the continuous improvement in the quality of tertiary level education and to contribute to a more just society by engaging students to have a formal channel to voice their views on all matters affecting the quality of life in Belize.
